Did you know that since 2015 the NFL has been tracking what’s happening on the field using RFID chips? The tiny chips, implanted in every player’s should pads, have been keeping score of player speed, distance travelled, acceleration, deceleration, distance between players, and more. The balls even have chips in them.
Thanks to Zebra Technology’s MotionWorks project, this data has been tracked and gathered in real time, providing endless possibilities. The Philadelphia Eagles even credit their Super Bowl win to the RFID data.
It begs the question – what sports will start using this technology next?
With a little bit of imagination – and a need for data – RFID technology can be applied in endless amounts of ways across innumerable industries.
